Any chance we can have someone remote into our PC and help us get a website up and running?
We are trying to add power cms to our site locally and are having some issues.
We are trying to add power cms to our site locally and are having some issues.
please provide some details on the issues you are having. I will try to answer them here, if not I Will get contact info from you to look into it.
We have installed the following:
Xampp
myPHPAdmin
design extender
We have created a database, set the privelages. We have the sites setup in managed sites. The site is set to testing.
However, when we go to add CMS to a page, we get errors when trying to define the connection. The errors state 'unidentified'.
The other messages we have received when trying to add CMS are asking us to create a new site, though we have defined our site folders.
Thanks.
Josh
first you need to define a site within Dreamweaver. See this tutorial for details:
http://www.webassist.com/tutorials/Define-a-dynamic-site-in-CS5
The undefined error on creating the database connection is related to problems in the site definition.
once the site is defined in dreamweaver, you can create the database connection:

Jason, I am working on the website that Josh has been talking about. I had redone the setup and connection to the database this morning before Josh had sent me the link to this thread.
The local test server connects to the test database, but when I try to replace the existing CMS content I get an error message. It is: CMS Content cannot contain server side code. Please make a valid selection. Can you tell me what that message means and how to get rid of it? We have been working on trying to get this site up on the new host for almost two weeks and don't seem to be a whole lot farther than we were when we started.
Thanks for any assistance,
Deb
The error message means that you have selected server side code on the page before using the WebAssist -> CMS -> Add Content to Power CMS.
The selection you have made on the page before using that menu point will remove that code from the page and store it in the database. The database cannot save server side code.
make sure that you have only selected HTML client side code on the page.
Okay, I was able to get the CMS installed to the localhost and it is picking up any pages that I Add Content to, but there was a lot of existing CMS content in these pages.
Is there any way to import the database, that we were given with the website, to pickup the existing CMS content? I really don't want to have to recreate the whole CMS setup for the site, and I'm not really sure that I can, since the original site location has been taken off line.
Thanks,
Deb
Was the original site created with Power CMS?
if so then the content will be in the pcs2_contents table.
you could export that table from the original site and import it to the new site.
you will probably have to edit the old page and change the require once code to link to the CMS files and change the paths.
any images that where in the CMS will probably need to have the paths changed too.
if you need assistance with this, I suggest signing up for a premiere support appointment:
http://www.webassist.com/premier_request.php
If we sign up for the premier support will it include migrating the site to the live server on GoDaddy?
The appointment is $99 for 30 minutes, we help with your issues for as long as you need.
