I have a small .php site and on opening with mydomain.comI get an error

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

If I enter mydomain.com/default.php the page opens normally

I cannot think of what may do this. Any ideas please?

Thanks
John
