Your store is a sales tool.

When you add a product to the catalog, you should be able to describe that product in order to make the user want to purchase it.

As a store owner, you are basically a sales person using the webstite as your sales tool.

The better the description you give for your products, the more likely you will be to convert a user browsing the catalog to a purchase.
