what two letters to use for Not Applicable in state/province selection in form

The checkout form in eCart has a dropdown menu with a list of states and provinces. For items sent to places other than USA or Canada the customer could select Not Applicable. The issue is that the the value is set by two letters, I tried N/A but it does not work. Any ideas, searched the the web but found no solution as of yet. Thanks in advance.
