How to make a note field longer on the checkout page?

We have created a "special notes" field on the checkout page of our clients store. It appears that the note is either cutting off and or not coming over at all. I have checked the order database and the varchar is set to 3000 so I'm not sure what the problem is????? I have attached the files if needed.

the maximum number of characters a varchar field can store is 255

try changing the data type in the orders table to text instead.

Hello Jason,

I discovered that it is not the length of the note that is causing a problem but any special characters that are included in the note. e.g. Today is "Monday" and it's a nice sunny day! This note will cut off and not show as soon as a " (quote) is added. If I remove the quote, the entire note will show. Are there any preferences that can be set to allow any special characters?
Thanks,
Jackie

the quotes need to be converted to HTML entities.

In the store order summary behavior, when you dind the note column to the note field, set the formating to Encode - HTML Encode.
