want add customer IPv4 Address and datestamp

I couple of thing I want to work out, I want to create a log of customers logging on to the shop frontend with their IP address and Date Times.
Can Security Assist (Authenticate user) function help me do this using session variables or do I have to create an Update Table Server Behavior if login is successful?

Secondly should I create a second database just for Logs and keep the just last login details on the main shop database?

One of our customers created this tutorial for logging user logins:

the tutorial shows how to store the date, you could add a second column for the IP address. and bind that column to the SERVER -> REMOTE ADDR binding on the bindings panel.

This look good... But I still think I would have to be creative to get what I need...

Thanks
