MySQL server has gone away

Hey Jason

Have got a site that is just showing this when you go to it: MySQL server has gone away

I have spoken with the web host who's response was:

  I have checked the server the mysql service is running fine and also there is no alerts in nagios.

The issue you are facing is due to mysql server resource has been exceeded for the domains. so I would request you to optimize the mysql queries of the websites, in order to resolve the issue.

But I am not sure what I would need to do to rectify this problem?

in the connection file, the last line will use mysql_pconnect to make the connection to the database. for example, a connection named localhost will have the following code at line 9:

$localhost = mysql_pconnect($hostname_localhost, $username_localhost, $password_localhost) or trigger_error(mysql_error(),E_USER_ERROR);

some hosts don't like the use of persistent connections. it sounds like this may be one of them. you can change mysql_pconnect to mysql_connect (in other words, drop the "p") to fix it:

$localhost = mysql_connect($hostname_localhost, $username_localhost, $password_localhost) or trigger_error(mysql_error(),E_USER_ERROR);
