Unique product id for different options

Unique product id for different options

Hi, I've built a small site with eCart, some of the products have different options for the 1 product, the problem I'm having is if I add-to-cart 1 product with option #1 and then another of the same product but with option #2 the cart is displaying it as 2 of the same product with the first option.
Products are read from a database, and from 2 separate tables, products, and productoptions.
The products are added to the cart based on their productID.
The productoptions table has columns optionID, productID, option.

What do I need to change to make the cart see the same product with different options as 2 different objects?

I've worked it out, I created a column called option (which I already had) but I made it unique.
At first I thought I would have to rebuild a lot of the site and the database by doing it this way, but I didn't.
