JavaScript file errors after installing Free Tools

Hi Jason, et. al.

I'm getting some errors after I've removed the extensions that conflict with the Free Tools and then installed the Free Tools:

At line 168 of file "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration\Shared\WebAssist\Library\WA_XML.js": XMLString has no properties.

and then:

At line 12 of file "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration\Shared\WebAssist\LayoutManager\shared.js": wa is not defined

In searching the forums, I followed instructions to delete the cache file and the files in the following directory:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS5\en_US\Configuration\Shared\WebAssist\Memento\Notifications

...but after this Dreamweaver failed to launch completely. I then removed the Free Tools extension and was able to launch Dreamweaver. I reset my Workspace Layout as instructed in other threads for similar errors and reinstalled the Free Tools with the same results - Dreamweaver failed to launch completely (froze up before finishing). I've removed the Free Tools so I can get by, but I really want to use the Google Search to update my search applications on our websites. I've attached a screenshot of my extensions as the problem appears to be a conflict or an issue with the installation sequence. I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 on Windows 7 64-bit OS.

Delete the Dreamweaver Cache file from the users configuration folder:
doc...ion_issues.php

Also in the configuration folder, go to Shared/webassist/preferances

you can manually disable memento by editing the Memento.xml file using a text editor like TextEdit.

change:

<wa_preference id="Memento_0" title="Show on Dreamweaver Startup" type="List" value="Never,When a new message is available,When any messages are available">When any messages are available</wa_preference>

to:

<wa_preference id="Memento_0" title="Show on Dreamweaver Startup" type="List" value="Never,When a new message is available,When any messages are available">Never</wa_preference>

and you can manually disable the rss feeds by editing the RSSFeeds.xml in a text editor. Change:

<wa_preference id="RSS_0" title="Disable all RSS Feeds" type="Check">0</wa_preference>
<wa_preference id="RSS_1" title="Check for Updates" type="List" value="When Dreamweaver Opens,Daily,Weekly,Monthly,When Memento Opens">When Dreamweaver Opens</wa_preference>

<wa_preference id="RSS_0" title="Disable all RSS Feeds" type="Check">1</wa_preference>
<wa_preference id="RSS_1" title="Check for Updates" type="List" value="When Dreamweaver Opens,Daily,Weekly,Monthly,When Memento Opens">When Memento Opens</wa_preference>

JavaScript file errors after installing Free Tools

Thanks Jason:

Today I went back and deleted the cache file, then edited the XML files are per your instructions, and when I launched Dreamweaver, I got the attached series of errr screens. The first three appear while Dreamweaver is launching and the final one appears after the program is open.

Let me know what I should do next.

Try uninstalling Free tools, then re installing it.

if that doesn't do the trick, i will start an incident.

JavaScript file errors after installing Free Tools

I checked my Extension Manager one more time and saw that there was a "Skype button" extension installed. I checked and found that the Communication Toolkit for Skype was on the list of conflicting extensions so I removed the Skype button extension, rebooted my computer and installed the Free Tools before launching any other apps. When I launched Dreamweaver this time I still got the three errors followed by the one error, but the program did not lock up as before. I'm able to use it.

I then exited Dreamweaver, deleted the cache file and launched Dreamweaver. I'm still getting the first two errors before the program loads and the final error when the UI comes up. Any further ideas on what's going on?

Thanks for your help!

Issues with Dreamweaver CS6 Free Tools

I am having the same issue with Free Tools but on the Google Tool Kit.
At line 2 of file "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration\Shared\WebAssist\GoogleToolkit\shared.js": wa is not defined.

Removing the .dat file and reinstalling produces the exact same error message.
I am using a Win7 on a 64bit HP machine with 2GB RAM. Using Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 version 12 build 5842.

The WebAssist on the top bar shows google indicating a dropdown, however this does not work.
The preferences button gets this error:
The following JavaScripterror(s) occurred. Unable to open script file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\Configuration\Shared\WebAssist\LayoutManager\shared.js" (error 3).
Web Assist Preferences shows preview not disabled, mento never and RSS feeds active.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling free tools. It looks like there is an older version of a file causing issues. Make sure to choose "yes to all" when installing free tools to get the latest version of all files.

Then close Dreamweaver, delete your cache.dat file and try again. If you still have issues I'll create a support ticket and we can have an engineer call and help you resolve this problem.

I've opened a support ticket so that we can schedule a phone call to debug this with you directly. It sounds like it might be a problem with incompatibility with older versions of some of the extensions, but we can figure it out in a screen sharing session for sure.
