required fields on checkout page

Hi. I've created a store using eCart and Universal Email. Can anyone tell me how I can ensure that customers enter a contact email address. At the moment it's not a required field. I would be very grateful for advice and a steer in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

on the eCart support page, in the Videos tab, there is a tutorial titled "Add server validation to your web forms" that walks through adding validation to the eCart checkout form. the example in the tutorial deals with validating the Credit Card fields, but the same concept applies to validating the email address.

Thanks Jason. I've just watched the video tutorial as suggested but can't follow as I don't seem to have "WebAssist>Validation>Server Validation" in my server behaviours panel. Any ideas of what's wrong? Many thanks.

what extensions do you have?

Validation is included with Data Bridge, or if you have an older extension suite with CSS Form Builder 2.

In CSS Form Builder, the access point is under Insert -> WebAssist -> Validation -> Server validation

you need to have either Form Builder of Data Bridge in order to use server validation.

the only other option is to use Spry Validation that is built into Dreamweaver.

the draw back of spry validation is that it can be easily ignored by turning javascript off in the browser.

here is a spry tutorial i found through Google:

Thanks Jason. I'll give spry a go as it's the cheaper option although not the best.

I've tried adding the spry validation to the email address field. The validation now works but it's stopped the email confirmation being sent so have had to remove it again. Can anyone tell me what part of the code I need to amend in order for the server to validate the email address field? It doesn't even have to validate as an email address, I just want it as a required field.
Many thanks.
Matt

when you convert the email address filed to a spry validation text field, make sure that the name of the element does not change.

make not of the name of the original email address form element, then convert it to a spry validation element, and make sure that the name of the new element is the same as the original email address form field.
