other Webassist products for Expression Web 2

other Webassist products for Expression Web 2

Hi

Since I have MS Expression Web 2 (EW2) I can't buy the other products that WebAssist markets as additions to CSS Sculptor as they only work in Dreamweaver. Is there any likelyhood of these products being produced for EW2?

I do have Adobe CS3 Design Suite Premium now so I could buy the additional products but then I would need to use Dreamweaver and buy another copy of CSS Sculptor as well.

And also could I buy those Webassist products that do not need CSS sculptor and reuse the templates in EW2?

In Microsoft's recent release of Expression Web 3, they decided not to include add-in support. They may decide to issue an upgrade to EW3 for add-in support. With that in mind our development for Expression Web products is currently on hold.

Expression Web and Dreamweaver do not share the same template architecture, a template created in cannot be used a s a template in the other.

You would be able to make the Dreamweaver Template in Expression Web, but not apply those changes to the child pages. That could only be done in Dreamweaver. It would be best to stick to one editing environment instead of switching back and forth.

Thanks Jason,
How odd, Microsoft seem to be shooting themselves in the foot. I have come from Frontpage 2002 and was able to buy Expression Web for a low price and had read that with its support for PHP it is a good product.

It is obvious that anyone who wants to make websites, other than the mythical web designers that only use Notepad should buy Dreamweaver.

I'll post my views over at Microsoft.

You're welcome, I thought the decision was an odd one on Microsoft's part as well, but I have heard they will releasing an update to add extensibility back in soon.

Microsoft Development of Expression Web 3

Thanks

I have a reply from a MS forum moderator:

"We understand that add-in support is important to our customers and partners. We remain very dedicated to supporting add-ins and have no intention to ever discontinue add-in support in Expression Web.

However, as part of the development process for Expression Web 3, it turned out that we needed to do more work to make sure that add-ins could work the same way that they did in Expression Web 2. As a result, add-ins are temporarily not available in Expression Web 3.

There will be an update made available this fall that will restore add-in functionality. Just as in Expression Web 1 and Expression Web 2, it will be up to add-in developers to update their add-ins for Expression Web 3.

I have had many conversations about this with WebAssist's CEO over the last several months - so I can only assume that what you have read in the WebAssist forums is a misunderstanding.

I hope that this clarifies things for you. Feel free to reply if you have any other questions.

Justin"

That's reassuring news :)
