Count of total products

I need to limit the number of total products in the cart to 1 so I need the php script that will display the total number of products currently in the shopping cart so that I can write an if/else alert statement. For example:

The shopping cart displays
Widget Red - Quantity - 1
Widget Blue - Quantity - 2
So the total would be 3 Widgets.

What script gives me the 3? Thanks.

Use the following to show the total quantity:

php:

<?php echo $yourCart->TotalColumn("Quantity"); ?>

where "yourCart" is the name of your cart object
