ASP code for dynamic mapping page?

ASP code for dynamic mapping page?

hi folks,

i've browsed the forum for hours, trying to find this information - my apologies if it's out there already.

i've set up a simple page in classic ASP that reads a few records from a database. each record contains a place name, address, latitude and longitude, and an optional "type" field.
the data display fine, so i know my connection is good: mapping/

when i try to incorporate a "pro maps" map into the page, the "show multiple" option is grayed out. from reading the forums, i know that this is because "pro maps" can't see my recordset.

is there sample code to show where the pro maps call should be made? right now i've got this:

- set up db connection
- set up query
- execute query
- read results as recordset
- display the results on the page
- close the connection

i feel like i'm very close on this, and i need dynamic capabilities for a project at work. appreciate any info you can provide. i'm attaching my web page here, so you can see my code.

Instead of hand coding the connection and the recordset, use Dreamweaver to create them on your page so that the recordset will be a format recognized by Pro Maps.

to create the connection, go to Window -> Databases in the databases panel, click the plus button to create a new connection.

once a connection is made, go to the server behaviors panel and click the plus button and select recordset.

ah! i always hand-code my connection, so i didn't know about this feature - thanks!

almost there. i've set up the site, and creating a new connection, but the connection string i'm using doesn't seem to work.

i just copied/pasted the connection string i use in my hand-coded pages: "PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;DATA;UID=dboxxx;PWD=xxx;DATABASE=dbxxx"

when i hit "test", i get an "access denied ... file may not exist ..." error.

googling around, it looks like connection strings often include database path information (server.mappath). i've never need to spec the path with 1and1 (my host), though.

any thoughts? thanks again.

Is your site properly defined for dynamic development.

In the Site definition, there must e a connection to the testing server set up, the testing server connection is used when making the database connection, if not properly set, the connection will fail.

see the "Defining a Dynamic Site in Dreamweaver" tutorial on the learning center page for details:

thanks again for the info. i have no problem defining a site, and i can connect to my ftp and test server without a problem.

but now the "database" option is grayed out. :-(

i'm going to visit the main webassist site and see if i can purchase some advanced support - i think i would benefit from some in-depth hand-holding.

Do you have an ASP Page open in Dreamweaver when you try to access the database tab?

The database tab will only be available if a dynamic page type from your site is open.
