payment collection

My company provides a service to Blocks of flats with a charge that is paid collectively by the leaseholders in the block. The payment is sometimes paid in full as one payment. But often, it is paid in numerous payments over a short period.

Ideally we would want a system where payments could be made that either updates an amount in a database that keeps the outstanding amount or a system that had a reference number assigned to an amount due per Block of flats.

Any advise on whether a system similar to the above options are possible would be much appreciated, subsequently any ideas you may have on how I could develop a system that supports our payment system requirements.

you could use eCart and Data Bridge for creating this type of system.

I think you would want to use security assist to create a login system. once the user is logged in, you can lookup their account to determine their outstanding balance.

in the eCart add to cart button, you could set the Price to be updatable from a text box, this would allow them to enter the amount they wanted to pay.

after the order has been processed, you would need to update their balance using the update record behavior to subtract the amount that was paid.

Merchant account

Would or could this type of system be integrated with "PAYPAL's website payments pro" merchant account?

Yes, eCart can be configured to use PayPal Payments pro as the gateway.

Paypal response

I have contacted PayPal about the system we are wanting to develop. They directed me to X.Com for PayPal developers saying I couldn't develop such a system with a 'Website payments standard/pro account and would need to develop it in X.com. X.com is way beyond my knowledge and I am now getting very confused of which way to turn with this. You mentioned previously how I could develop a system with E-cart and Data Bridge. But I am now worried we would also need to pay someone to develop our paypal gateway on X.Com to work with such a system. Can you shed any light on this?

Greatful but confused!!

The system you are trying to create is not going to be a simple project, it will require a fair amount of knowledge of how a database works, how the paypal transactions work and how to update the database after the transaction has been completed.

if you don't have a good understanding of the eCommerce workflow, and PHP / MySQL, this will be a very tough project.

I'm not familir with x.com, so cant really comment on that, but i think what paypal is trying to say is that payments pro alone wont be able to handle tracking the user accounts. the unpaid balance, and deducting the amount paid when a transaction is made.

This is the part you will need to develop using a secure login area to log the user in so they can see the account balance, and make a payment.

Paypal Pro can be used for processing the payment, but you will need to develop the rest of the system that tracks the users account.
