Email Settings didn't go as expected

Perhaps I misunderstood how these settings translate. The server for this client has a 500 emails/hour restriction. The total audience is 722. So we set the Email Settings to be very conservative for the first mailing at 200 emails, every 10 minutes with 1 second between. I thought so anyway.

Once the Send button was clicked, it began sending and didn't stop at 200. It continued until all 722 were sent. However, at email #500 it began returning "Mail delivery deferred: returning message to sender" in the subject and "Domain xyz.com has exceeded the max emails per hour (500/500 (100%)) allowed. Message will be reattempted later. There were 125 of these that came back, so I don't know if the other 97 or so after that were sent or not and I can't seem to figure out how to make sure the others were successful after the next hour.

Where did I go wrong.
Did I totally misunderstand the settings? Or did I forget to do something else?

Again, my settings were:
200
10
1

Thanks,
TroyD

using your settings:
200 emails, every 10

would exceed the 500 email limit in 25 minutes
200 - first 10 minutes
200 - 20 minutes
100 - 25 minutes
500 emails sent

200 emails, every 10 minutes will send 1,200 emails in an hour

200 * 6 = 1,200

You should set the emails to send 82 every 10 minutes, this will send 492 email in an hour.

82 * 6 = 492

Oh man, that's exactly right. Don't I feel stupid. Yes, it would exceed the 500/hour.
Thanks. I need to get some sleep I guess.

But one issue still sticks out in my mind. It ran through all of them in just about the 12 minutes you would expect them to at a rate of 1 per second. But why didn't it stop at 200... wait until the 10th minute was up... then start the second batch of 200... and so on?

Since there was never a pause it still feels like it ignored my settings even though my settings were wrong.

Let us know if you have the same problem using 82 as the email limit and we will look into what may be causing it.

Thanks Jason, I will. But we won't be able to test that until their next mailing in a week or so. I will report back.
