universal email working on a linux/php platform

We have a client who has their own server, it's a linux platform. They just added php to the server. We built their site php using universal email on two forms that they have. We are unable to get the forms to submit. We have built this feature on many of our clients sites and I have double checked to make sure we didn't miss anything in the programming, however, it simply is not submitting. Is there something specific that needs to be included on the server in order for this function to work? I am not very savy when it comes to servers. Any direction would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Jackie

the server would need to have an SMTP Server installed and properly configured.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for your response. I've spoke to the client and they have installed an smtp server on their server and I'm still not getting the form submissions to go through???

I have created two forms, one is a standard contact us form and the other is also pretty standard but has a "attach your resume" function. We've created this type of form many times so I'm not sure of the problem. I've attached the files to see if you can see something that I can't. The only other thing I can think of is that there server is an sftp versus a stand ftp????

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jackie

just installing the smtp server, does not necessarily mean the SMTP server is configured to relay email messages. The SMTP server needs to properly configured to relay the emails, and in Universal Email, you will need to set the Email Server settings to connect to the SMTP server that has been installed.

Thank you! I see in the email settings that there is a smtp server, port, organization etc do i need to change the drop down to smtp pear? I'm not familiar with this, especially the PEAR part. What would I need to do hear?

If the SMTP Server requires authentication, than you will need to use the Pear Mail email object, if not, then using the Mail Object will be fine.

thanks Jason, I just changed the email settings and the client says to use a IP address for the server and gave the email port #. I'm still not getting the submission. Ive attached the new files, is there something I'm missing?

Thanks
Jackie

is it redirecting to the thankyou.php page?

if so, then universal email is sending the message to the SMTP server, but the SMTP server is not relaying the email message.

you will need to look at the SMTP server error logs to see why the email is not being relayed.

Hello Jason,

Thank you for the information on this. Our client has made some changes to their server to now allow forms to submit to the designated email addresses, however, two things are still causing problems. One, when someone fills out the contact us form, it will submit but it shows the following errors on the page:

The second is when someone fills out the employment form the attachment if added doesn't come through.

Is there anything that we are missing on our end?

Let me know if you need any other files or information.

Thanks!

For the error message, edit the Universal Email instance on the contact page. On the Email Server Settings tab, select a character set.

for the attachment, you have configured the attachment settings incorrectly.

edit the Universal Email instance on the employment page. go to the attachments screen. Instead of using entered value, (this would be used to enter the name of the file from the server to attach), use the Submitted File option and select the Browse file filed.
