We don't use cookies for the most part in any of our solutions. The only time we offer to set a cookie is sometimes on login pages to save your login information or allow automatic login. Other than that we just use session variables, so they should all comply with the privacy law.
And those cookies are essential so you are covered!
I have been going through all of my sites to make them EU/UK Cookie Compliant. To do this I have been using the Attacat Cookie Audit Tool, a Google Chrome Add-on to complete a cookie audit and to help create a cookie information page.
Then I have been using Cookie Consent to allow people to choose which cookies to accept.
I have found that the main issues on my sites have been the Social Networking buttons created using Webassist and also any Analytics that I have in place (Google, Piwik etc).
The cookies set by the social network buttons are actually set by the social network, so we can't control those either. You may be able to find more information about those specific cookies by searching on the cookie name and the social network that sets them.
