ship rate chart

I am very new at this and need to set up a chart for ecart to calculate ship charge based upon total dollars spent. Exactly how do I do this?

I also need the option to set some of my items up to have no ship charge.

Can I have the option to either set up a part number to have a ship charge calculation attached OR to set up the part number with no shipping charge atttached.

you would need to set up shipping rules in the eCart object on the shipping tab.

to set the shipping up so some items have shipping applied, you would need to create a new cart column, for the sake of example, lets call this column shippable. for the items that should be included in the shipping charge, set the value of this new column to 1 in the add to cart button, items that are not included in the shipping charge, should have that column set to 0 in the add to cart button.

on the shipping tab, you would set up a shipping charge for each total price break. the exact settings will depend on how you want the shipping applied.

If you provide more details on how you want shipping to work, I can give more specific instructions.

tried it out a bit and am still confused...

there are many items that we have the hsipping proced included in the product price. It is practical for our business model to have these items.

All other items would have a shipping charged attached based upon subtotal. These charges would be for example:
$0 - $19.99

there are many items that we have the shipping price included in the product price. It is practical for our business model to have these items. therefore, I need to be able to define a particular part number as having no ship charge attached.

All other items would have a shipping charged attached based upon subtotal. These charges would be tiered as per subtotal, for example:
$0 - $19.99 $8.00 ship charge
$20.00-$49.99 $12.00 ship charge
etc....

I am very new and testing out your product, so I need step by step help.

Thank you for your time and help.

ok, well, you have 2 parts going on.

1) marking which items to include in the shipping rate calculation.

For this, you need to add a column to the cart object. for the sake of example, lets name the column "shippable"

In the add to cart button behavior, if the item should be included in the shipping calculation, set the shippable column value to 1, if not, set the shippable column value to 0.

2) Applying the shipping based on the total of the cart where the shippable column has a value of 1.

for each shipping charge, you need to create a separate rule on the shipping tab of the ecart object.

for example to charge $8 shipping if the subtotal of items marked as shippable is between $0 and $19.99 the rule would be created as:
Triggers:
Custom Calculation:
$this->ConditionalTotal("TotalPrice", "shippable", "1") > 0

AND
Custom Calculation:
$this->ConditionalTotal("TotalPrice", "shippable", "1") < 20

Calculation:
Flat Rate Change of 8

the other calculation would be similar just substituting the correct amounts.
