Need breadcrumbs added to product pages

I am stumped on how to handle this. I am using PS3 for this site. My client is looking to add a breadcrumb string to the top of their product page. We had modified the site to use mod_rewrite to create friendly URLs so standard breadcrumb scripts don't work since they create bogus links back to the categories. There has got to be a way to add links using the dynamic category code but I'm getting confused on how to write this when a product is within a sub category of a parent category. Would anyone be able to shed some light on this or provide a piece of code that would work?

We just want it to say "You are here: Home > Category 1 > sub category > product" With each one linking to their respective place.

Any help would be appreciated!
