Adding Text Entry Abilty to eCart

Hi,

I am creating a small store and have gotten ecart to work perfectly by following all the tutorials, and with some assistance here when I got stuck ;) but now I need to add an editable text field to allow the user to enter a persons name and have the name be displayed/posted to paypal upon checkout so when the receipt is printed it will show the info the client wants displayed.

I was able to add the required fields within ecart and have it flow all the way to the confirm page, but when paypal loads the info does not tranfer, it will only show the item name, ID# and price.

I added a hidden field to the paypal button in the following format... with no success.

<input type="hidden" name="student_<?php echo $mdfCart_Index+1; ?>" id="student_<?php echo $mdfCart_Index+1; ?>" value="<?php echo $mdfCart->DisplayInfo("Student") ?>" />

Not sure if this was correct, but I took a shot.

My question is, is it posible for ecart to transmit this info to paypal and will paypal display it?

Regards,

Gary

What paypal system are you using ? Paypal Standard or Paypal Direct payment.

The easiest what to accomplish this and make sure paypal displays it is to conctinate the new column to the vartiable that passes the name to paypal.

if using paypal standard, there will be a hidden element on the confirm page similar to:

php:
<input type="hidden" name="item_name_<?php echo $mdfCart_Index+1?>" id="item_name_<?php echo $mdfCart_Index+1?>" value="<?php echo $mdfCart->DisplayInfo("Name"?>" />

you can add the student to the name using this code

php:
<input type="hidden" name="item_name_<?php echo $mdfCart_Index+1?>" id="item_name_<?php echo $mdfCart_Index+1?>" value="<?php echo $mdfCart->DisplayInfo("Name"?> - <?php echo $mdfCart->DisplayInfo("Student"?>" />

Hi Jason,

This is the same solution I had come to, was hoping for a more graceful one, but I understand this is an issue with Paypal Standard. Is there an easy way to send an email from Universal email upon completion of the sale? I am thinking I can store all the details in session variables and send an email when the checkout success page loads, is this possible or am I dreaming?

Thanks,

Gary

with paypal standard, you would need to have a an IPN Page that would be used to send the email.

the IPN page is a page you create to receive the IPN post from paypal. there are many threads in this forum dealing with IPN such as this one:
showthread.php?t=1623

also see the paypal IPN Documentation here:
