Universal Email 4 - Video Tutorials ?

Does anybody know if there are video tutorials for Universal Email 4. The 'help' documentation is not very helpful. I need more detail on things like including session variables, accessing and retrieving data from a database file which needs to be displayed in the email sent etc.

Thanks
Peter

no, there are no video tutorials for universal email.

for including session variables in the email, this is just a matter of opening the bindings panel, and adding the session binding to the email body.

recordset info is a little more tricky and depends on a number of factors:

is this a one of email that will only go to one recipient? or is this a email that will use a recordset list for the recipient?

Are you using the Create File For the email body option?

if so, see this thread for details:

Ok, if I could start with a simple example.
I need to send an email to someone that has forgotten their Username & Password. A page is created where the user will type in their email address (which = their username). Their password will then be retrieved from the database and emailed to them.

Sorry, forgot to look at the thread, will do now.

create a form with a text box and a submit button.

the text box will be for entering the email address, make note of the name of the text box.

create a recordset that will query the users table. in the filtering section select the email address column, select the Form value filter type and enter the name of the text box next to it.

in universal email, set the too address to use the email address column from the recordset. for the email body, click the DW Edit icon, from the bindings panel, expand the recordset and use the bindings for the user name and password column to add that information to the email.

Thanks ! Easy when you know how :-)
It seems to be working fine, however I'm not getting an email. I'm testing on my Localhost, is that maybe the reason.
The SMTP server is set to localhost, and the Port to 8889 (default MAMP settings).

testing email on local host is problematic at best. it requires that you have an smtp server set up on your testing server and configured properly.

I know MAMP Pro and XAMPP include smtp servers in them, but to be 100% honest, I have never been successful getting them set up correctly.

your better of testing on the remote server.
