DA Search Wizard Holding Selection and Triggered by Link

Two quick questions:

I have a bank of category links on my home page. I also have a Search Wizard results page that has a pull down menu for those category. Is there a way to code those links so they use the Search Wizard generated page results? Search Wizard doesn't use URL data, which is how I would normally do it.

Secondly, my search wizard selections hold fine on page, so the user is able to refine searches to greater degrees if they prefer. However, when the user clicks the detail page and then returns to the search results, the search results remain consistent with the last search, but the pull down menus no longer hold the proper selections of the last search. Is there a way to hold those even if the user clicks to the detail page, and then returns to the search wizard results page?
