How do I post to related tables?

I have created two related tables, they have a one to many relationship. The main contact table (contactID, firstName, lastName, etc.) uses an auto-increment integer for the primary key (contactID). The secondary table (purchaseID, contactID, product, price, etc.) uses an auto-increment integer field for the primary key(purchaseID), and also has a foreign key field (contactID), that forms the relationship. I can create a recordset that joins these to display ALL the data from both tables. What I want to do is insert the appropriate data into one form to update both tables, I assume I need to pass the contactID field in contacts to the foreign field (contactID) in purchases along with the product info etc. I know this is probably a stupid question, but I don't know how to go about it in dreamweaver and data assist.

You would need to use 2 data assist insert record behaviors.

The first insert record behavior will insert to the main contact table.

In the Session Variable section, make sure to select the contactID column and make note of the name that is set in the Store As section, this will store the contactID of the newly created record to a session variable.

in the second insert record behavior, bind the contactID column of the second table to the session created by the first insert record behavior.
