Users, Groups, Audiences

Trying to get the hang of groups, audiences, etc.

I have a number of committees, so that would be a group. I created the groups.

How do I put a user into a committee (group), or even more, into several groups, using the database?

Users are in pm1_users with a userID and a UserGroupID (but that just defines User/Admin level).

pm1_mailinggroups have the GroupID and the committee name.

pm1_groupsubscriptions has a userID and a GroupID (but the userID refers to user or admin). (I may have this backward)

So, what I want to do, is, using the database, enter users that are tied to a groupID (committee)

So Mary Jones is on the PR committee as well as the Financing Committee. Two groups, one user.

Thanks, as always.

I think I found it.

Using groupsubscriptions, enter new, use the userID and enter the GroupID (user / committee).

So I was confusing userID and UserGroupID.

Groups and Audiences have 2 separate uses

Groups:
Users need to subscribe to groups, when you create a group, there is a button for "Get signup Form HTML"

this is a signup form to add to your page to allow a user to signup to be part of that group.

Audiences:
Audiences allow you to define criteria for who the mailing goes to. For example you could use the UserState column to send the email to all registered users in Florida

if you are creating groups like PR committee and Financing Committee, you will need to add the signup code to a page on your site and tell Mary Jones to visit that page to signup for those groups

Thanks... I got the sign up part, but I have already formed lists and I'm going to import from a csv file, so they won't be signing up themselves.

thanks for clarification...
