freelance custom WA modifications

I have noticed some requests in here for mods to certain WA products.
I have made quite a few of those requested mods on my own for my own needs and was wondering what is WA's stand on me offering up custom mods here?

I wouldn't offer full code packages, of course...only the files needed to make the mofications and instructions.

should be fine. if you can modify your own, why not help another to mod there's for a pretty penny…IMHO

I figured I would ask first, don't wanna ruffle any feathers.
I think it would be awesome if WA would start up some kind of customers plugins* system. Like if one of us made a neat plugin or alteration, we could submit it to them and then maybe the creator would get "store credit" or something towards future purchases. WA could offer the plugins for free to owners of that particular base item, and the maker could get a little something for the effort.
seems like a win win situation, and would promote their initial products as always evolving

*plugin would be a loose term here, as most wouldn't probably be a simple add this file to your fileset

it seems like a good idea in principle, but what happens when something goes wrong ?

Looking at it from a WA perspective, if you add some custom code to their extension, and it doesn't work as expected, they cannot be expected to offer support.

There may well be a mechanism to do this, but I think it needs careful planning

If you do have any cool improvements though, post them, there are a number of forum members who will try them, feed back and generally give them the once over. - then who knows ?

I began last night translating my admin features from pcms1 to pcms2, as I noticed that many have been asking for some of the features I have already added in...like page editing controls for specified people only. I will post back with some info when I get that finished and tested.
I do see your point about support for user plugins, maybe just a seperate forum area for user plugins that would just be user to user help. I think ,for the most part, that plugins should be fairly easy to integrate...as they wouldn't be huge full blown apps, just repurposing of functions and tweaks.

I have no problems with users helping other users, In actual fact, I encourage users to help each other. I would love to see more of a community feel grow in this forum.

That being said, GraigR raises the big issue with this: we cant offer support if something goes wrong when somebody tries to implement your updates.

Other issues can develop from this as well. For example, if they implement your updates then come back at a later date and ask how to modify something else in the files. I no longer have the same source code as they do, if I say change line 235 to something else, the code at line 235 for them is now different so my answer just causes confusion.

The bottom line is that it's not so simple as a "plug-in".

any file changes greatly effect the support I can offer. it would rely on the person implementing the updates you offer to include that fact in any future support posts to ensure that I am on the same page. from my experience, i dont see that as a realistic expectation.

I think instead of publishing the updated files in public, it may be better to offer you services in the job board to perform the updates for them.
