PayPal Payments Standard an Auto Return

PayPal Payments Standard an Auto Return

We have three websites that make payments to one PayPal account using Website Payments Standard.

After successfully making the payment, how do we return to each of the specific websites the transaction was initiated from?

We have the url in the hidden return field on the confirm.php page, but after the payment to PayPal it does not forward back to the website. PayPal only provides a link to the return field address the user can click on. It does not return automatically.

If auto return is enabled on PayPal, only one return address may be entered on PayPal's website.

on the confirm page, look for a hidden form element named return, and set the value to the full URL for the success page:

<input type="hidden" name="return" id="return" value="http://mydomain.com/checkout_success.php" />

Yes, we have already done that.

<input type="hidden" name="return" id="return" value="http://www.websiteName.com/checkout_success.php" />

Also, How can we limit the shipping address to one on file with PayPal? <input type="hidden" name="address_override" id="address_override" value="0" /> or even commenting it out, still allows any address to be shipped to.

if the return URL is set, that is what paypal will use.

please post a link where i can test this.

After the third call to PayPal, we got the answer. Maybe Webassist should document this.

The hidden field value on confirm.php for the return value <input type="hidden" name="return" id="return" value="http://www.yourWebsite.com/checkout_success.php" /> is an OVERRIDE.

In PayPal's setup preferences for Web Payments Standard in the mytools section there is a radio button to enable AUTO return. This must be enabled AND a URL entered into a text field for the user to be returned to.

Now the issue is, if you have multiple websites, you may only specify one URL via PayPal's settings. So the confirm.php value OVERRIDES the PayPal preferences settings. But, you still must have auto return enabled and a URL entered, even if the URL is set to www.google.com.

This will allow you to alter the confirm.php page on multiple websites to make payments to a single PayPal account and then be returned to the specific website after a successful transaction.

<input type="hidden" name="return" id="return" value="http://www.yourWebsite.com/checkout_success.php" />

Hope this make sense.
