php files rendered as html

I haven't seen this before so I'll try to explain.

My client has provided me with access to their files via a shared network folder, (they don't have access to the ftp credentials at the moment).

I can connect OK, but whenever I download a .php page, it is rendered as an html, (I presume in exactly the same way as if I was using site import).

Can anyone explain what I need to do to access the file properly ?

Cant really say I've had this problem before so not sure what is going wrong

Are you accessing the shared folder using the operating systems file manager? Or are you using a web browser to access the shared folder?

The most reliable way to download source files is going to be through FTP.

I am accessing the folder through windows file manager, as though a network drive.

honestly, I dont have any idea on why the files wont download correctly. I would hold out for an FTP connection.

Are you sure the file extension is .php not .php4 or .php3
