Digital Downloads on a shared hosting account?

Digital Downloads on a shared hosting account?

Is it advisable or even possible, to sell ebooks with a "shared hosting account" from GoDaddy?

I'm pretty sure I cannot create a digital download folder outside of root... however, can't I just put ebook PDF's in the digital downloads folder inside root, and let customers download their purchased ebooks from there?

Thanks again for all the help.
Dan

sure, this is possible, but it is not advisable.

The problem is that if you have your digital goods stored inside the site root, they can be accessed directly by a web URL to be downloaded without having purchased.

The reason for storing the digital goods outside the site root is to prevent direct access.
