Has anyone tried adding options?

Has anyone tried adding options?

Hey Guys,

We did something a little different with how product options are implemented in CafeCommerce and we would really appreciate some feedback on this feature.

If we could get some beta testers to go through the process of adding products with options and testing that out, it would be really helpful.

In particular, if you could address the following questions in your feedback:
- Was it easy enough to find where to add options to your product?
- Did you have trouble creating options and groups
- Were you able to specify different values for your options as desired?
- If you have used the PowerStore's options before, how does this compare? Is this too limited in comparison? Anything missing?

Thanks!

Neil,

I wanted to respond to your questions regarding adding options.

It was very easy in my opinion to add options and also easy to find where to add options and I did so with no issues.

I do not have PowerStore so I unfortunately can't compare anything there.

One thing I did have an issue with is I tried having two totally different images for one product but when you click on the actual product page there is no picture that defaults to. What I tried to do was on my SHIRTS category I tried making a different option for patterns and when you went to the category page it showed the default image but when you clicked on the actual product page there was no image showing. Is there something that I done wrong?

If needed I can re-create and take screenshots of what I am talking about.

Everything else worked as it should for me other than the image default on the actual product page. Let me know if you would like me to re-create and take screenshots to show what I am talking about.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kevin,

Just to make sure we are on the same page, let me explain what is and isn't possible with products images w/options.

You can upload as many images for a single product as you like. So, if your product has multiple variations (different sizes, colors, etc.), you can upload images for all those variations. This instantly creates an image gallery that shows up on the product's detail page.

When adding images, the image that is listed at the top will be the image that shows first on the product detail page, and the image that shows on the catalog page for that product's listing. You can drag and drop each image if you wish to change that order and have a different image be first.

What you cannot do...

We currently do not have the ability to specify an image for each individual variation. So, when a customer chooses a different option from the dropdown on the product details page, the image will not change. We might be able to do something about this in the future, but we think this is going to be an acceptable limitation for launch, as it is likely that a customer will go through the product images to see the variation they are looking for.

I do not think that what you are asking for is currently a feature. There is not a way to have two different images for a single product. Such as one image for the catalog, and a different image as default on the product details page.

Am i understanding you correctly?

As always, thanks for your feedback and for testing things out. Let us know if you find anything else.

Default images on product page

Hello Neil,

I have figured out my issue. What my problem was I must have originally checked out the product page in "edit mode" and the default image doesn't work in edit mode. I have attached an image showing what I was talking about after I did another test and tried it and found what I thought was an issue in edit mode. So I have figured out what I was talking about on my own after seeing your response.

Now in the image you will see that I was only showing a blank image section on the left with two images below and that is what I was asking about. This is only something in edit mode so after I got out of edit mode the first image showed up as expected on the page.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Kevin,

I think we've seen what you are referring to. Sometimes when a gallery loads for the first time, it does not load all the images correctly. If you were to reload the page when you saw this, it probably would've appeared properly.
