Checkout without email

Is it possible to set up the store so that the email field is not required. My client sells a product to older customers and they don't want to enter or don't have an email address. Can the validation be removed so it will process without the email?

there are too many places this would need to be edited to be able to allow checkout without email, it is not just simply removing one validation check.

A simpler approach would be to add instructions to use a dummy email address like guest@yourdomain.com (where yourdomain.com is the actual domain of your website) if they do not have one.
