Power Gallery Thumnails

Thread began 3/04/2011 10:26 am by farnumfoto279323 | Last modified 3/07/2011 12:15 pm by Jason Byrnes | 1957 views | 11 replies |

Power Gallery Thumnails

I just showed my client the basic gallery (grid_lightbox) with 2 of his products. He wants to be able to see the whole product in the thumbnail and not a clipped version. Is this possible?

you would need to create a custom image size for the proportional image type and edit the gallery index.php file to use that.

see this post for details on changing image sizes in the gallery;
showthread.php?t=8844&highlight=properties

Thumbnail images

I have already printed out that thread, however, I have no clue on how to accomplish that. That's why I purchased Power Gallery. However, if it needs to be customized according to my client's demands, I will need help from somewhere or someone. I also dread trying to get these "galleries" of product images to fit into the page layouts, I most likely need help with that also. So, if you can make any suggestions (short of hiring a web developer), regarding my dilemma, it will be greatly appreciated.

power gallery will do this out of the box.

you will need to modify the code to accomplish this.

you will need to modify the properties.php page and add:

array('w' => 132, 'h' => 140),

to the proportional array, then reprocess the images by editing the water mark.

the edit the galleries/grid_lightbox/index.php page,
and change:

$gallery = get_gallery(get_mediarss_url('gallery=' . $pg_id . '&thumb=132c&full=782p'));

to:
$gallery = get_gallery(get_mediarss_url('gallery=' . $pg_id . '&thumb=132p&full=782p'));

so that the thumb nails use the proportional thumbnail instead of the croped thumbnail.

Now there are only small rect. boxes. I made the changes suggested, but not sure about the watermark (?)

index.php?gallery=2&theme=dark

there are only small rectangular boxes because the thumbnails have not been created yet.

you need to go to the gallery admin, go to settings and make a change to the watermark, then click up[date watermark, this will cause the gallery images to be recreated

That worked, but the thumbnails need to be wider because the images are distorted.

then you will need to adjust the size of the image that is created by adjusting the width or height in the properties.php file:
array('w' => 132, 'h' => 140),

If yu want this to be wider, say 160px:
array('w' => 160, 'h' => 140),

Edit the watermark again to regenerate the images.

then edit the line in the index file;
$gallery = get_gallery(get_mediarss_url('gallery=' . $pg_id . '&thumb=132p&full=782p'));

to use the new 160px wide thiumb:
$gallery = get_gallery(get_mediarss_url('gallery=' . $pg_id . '&thumb=160p&full=782p'));

First, let me thank you for all of your help. I changed the w to 160, no change, then I changed it to 200, still, no change. I deleted the files from the server and re-uploaded them, no change. I tried this multiple times, following your instructions to the letter. Please advise.
index.php?gallery=3&theme=dark

$gallery = get_gallery(get_mediarss_url('gallery=' . $pg_id . '&thumb=200p&full=782p'));

<?php
$GLOBALS['image_extensions'] = array('png', 'jpg', 'jpeg', 'gif'); //use lowercase
$GLOBALS['resize_proportional'] = array(
array('w' => 1024, 'h' => 768, 'watermark' => true),
array('w' => 782, 'h' => 481, 'watermark' => true),
array('w' => 200, 'h' => 140),
array('w' => 163, 'h' => 92)

);
$GLOBALS['resize_cropped'] = array(
array('w' => 62, 'h' => 62),
array('w' => 200, 'h' => 140),
array('w' => 102, 'h' => 102),
array('w' => 42, 'h' => 42),
array('w' => 782, 'h' => 481, 'watermark' => true),
array('w' => 999, 'h' => 260, 'watermark' => true)
);
$GLOBALS['jpg_quality'] = 90; //0-100, 100 being the best
$GLOBALS['png_quality'] = 1; //0-9, 0 being the best
$GLOBALS['permissions'] = array(
'dir' => 0777,
'file' => 0666
);
?>

in the gallery index page, try changing:

php:
echo '<a href="' . $gallery['images'][$i]['fullsize']['url'] . '" rel="lightbox-pg' . $random . '" name="<strong>' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['title']) . (strlen($gallery['images'][$i]['title']) > 0 ? ':' : '') . '</strong> ' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['description']) . '"><img alt="" title="' . $i . '##' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['title']) . '##' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['description']) . '"  src="' . $gallery['images'][$i]['thumb']['url'] . '" width="66" height="70" alt="test" /></a>';

to:

php:
echo '<a href="' . $gallery['images'][$i]['fullsize']['url'] . '" rel="lightbox-pg' . $random . '" name="<strong>' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['title']) . (strlen($gallery['images'][$i]['title']) > 0 ? ':' : '') . '</strong> ' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['description']) . '"><img alt="" title="' . $i . '##' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['title']) . '##' . str_replace('"', '\"', $gallery['images'][$i]['description']) . '"  src="' . $gallery['images'][$i]['thumb']['url'] . '" width="200" height="140" alt="test" /></a>';
