Data Assist Sort Toggle / Mod-Rewrite

Data Assist Sort Toggle / Mod-Rewrite

Hi

I currently have a page that contains a recordset and I allow the user to sort the data using a jump menu.

This works great - until I implement mod-rewrite rules onto the site.

For example (the domain is made up - not intentionally meant to link to anywhere) :

listings.php?sort=distance

Will toggle the sort order every time I hit refresh

distance/ (where the mod-rewrite rule is RewriteRule ^listings/([^/\.]+)/ /listings.php?sort=$1 [L]) does not

Bottom line is I know the query is working but there appears to be a limitation in the Toggle feature when using mod-rewrite. Is there any way around this?

Thanks
Ian

I'm not sure the mod rewrite rule is correct, Using the rewrite rule generator at www.webmaster-toolkit.com:
mod_rewrite-rewriterule-generator.shtml?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.domain.com%2Flistings.php%3Fsort%3Ddistance&style=1&page_name=listings.php

I got the following sytax for your rewrite rule:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule listings/(.*)/(.*)/$ /listings.php?$1=$2

Wow! Thanks Jason - as always!

I've been URL rewriting like that for a good couple of years now. Never had any problems with it until now, but I guess I've never wanted my web pages to sort records before.

Thanks for putting me right. What would I do without you!

Cheers
Ian
