Gift Certificate solution recipe or tutorial?

Any chance you have created a solution recipe or tutorial for adding a gift certificate to your site? This seems like an integral part of an effective shopping experience at this point online and it would be great to have a way to easily add this to our sites. Thank you. I have looked through the forum and seen bits and pieces of how to do this but no definitive answers our directions to follow.

I am familiar with and regularly use coupons. My issue is in creating a gift certificate in the cart, assigning it's own code, storing it, subtracting only the amount used when a customer redeem it, etc. Thank you.

No, there is not a tutorial in place for a gift certificate system.
You would need to have the user logged in before they could redeem the gift certificate, see the "Applying Register/Login to your checkout" for details on that.

then you would need to add custom logic to the checkout process to deduct the certificate from the cart, update the certificate if there is any leftover, the process the transaction through the gateway if the deducted cart amount is greater than 0. It shouldn't be to difficult to put this in place if you are familiar with PHP coding, but we will not be able to offer extensive support for this beyond a general overview.
