do you have a dynamic site defined in Dreamweaver?

See the Learning resources page for details on configuring a Dreamweaver site:
support/

make sure you have a new page created and saved to the Dreamweaver site and that this page is open in Dreamweaver before starting the menu writer wizard.

i created a dynamic site ofcourse. Well the problem is that it is not even starting. when i insert/webassist/css menu writer, it checks for activation. i get a msg that it is activated i press ok, dreamweaver crashes.
this is the only extension that is crashing. all the others are working fine!

do you have a page open and saved to the site?

In your site definition, do you have a testing server configured, if you only have a remote server set up, set it to be the testing server too.

Yes i have a testing server and i saved the page!
the css menu writer is functional within the scc sculptor.i can insert one from there.and i can view the presets from the preset manager. but as if its UI is not loading!
