Dreamweaver Keeps "hanging"

Dreamweaver Keeps "hanging"

Just started with Data Assist. The Wizard causes Dreamweaver to stop responding about 75% of the time. Any ideas? It's CS4 on a pc with Win7 64bit.

before starting the wizard, try closing the Files and Server Behaviors panel of Dreaweaver.

I have seen some instances where having these two open when running the wizard can cause issues.

also try deleting the Dreamweaver cache file from the users configuration folder:

Still not working

I bought this product for a project that I'm doing - and this kind of scripting is really not my strength. It looks like this is the best solution and I didn't mind the $99.00 price. But, this should have taken 30 minutes to do and it has now gone into 1.5 days.
The extension hangs or crashes Dreamweaver over and over.
When I choose only some fields to show for a function, they all show
I get all the way to the end, and it hangs
I start over and it hangs
I removed the extension, cleared Dreamweavers cache, closed the all work panes except databases and still the same results.
Please, understand me, I do want this to work. But I can not spend 2 days on a task that should take 15 minutes.
The extension behaves the same on my office machine (Win7 64bit) and at home (winxp).
The db is on godaddy.
Please help!

Hosting the DB on go daddy is most likely the cause of the problem.

Dreamweaver can have a tough time just establishing the connection to a remote database. As the pages are created, Dreamweaver will need to connect to the remote database again for each page.

It is a better practice to set up a local testing server for development, and testing, then when you have completed the application, upload everything to the remote server.

See the tutorials for on the learning resources page for setting up a local testing server:

Thanks!

I was suspecting that godaddy might be the issue. I do have WAMP server set up at home and will follow your suggestion; it sounds like it will solve the problem completely.

you're welcome.

Developing on the local computer will greatly speed the process up.

Thank you!

I can't thank you enough! The project is going much better now. I wish I had thought to use wamp in the first place - I was just trying to skip ahead.
I do have another question. Instead of updating a record, I will need to insert as a new record. I'm a bit confused about how to do this with Data Assist. I have no trouble inserting new records and updating current records; I just need updated records to actually be new records. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thank you again, Leigh

replace the update record server behavior with the insert record server behavior on the update pages.
