Character insertion breaking editor

After many hours of trying to find the problem, I think I did, so thought I'd post for anyone else running into it.

I'm using HTML editor for back end administration for my client to make changes on pages, filling a database table(s).

I was merely moving content from the older site and each time I worked on one particular page, either by cutting pasting, or typing in directly, the field using the HTML Editor, populated the next non HTML Editor field. It was very baffling, and was only happening on this one record.

It was the inclusion of a specific character in the edit box. Since there is a good possibility that it may happen here too, I'll insert the character followed by THE END after it. It may or may not show up!

|

THE END

It showed up! So what is different about this html editor and the one I am using? Some setting?

Thanks

My resident tech god tells me that it is a database setting. Exactly what to do, is still a mystery, but this info may be of help to someone else.

No, this is our bug... it is a limitation in DataAssist that doesn't allow that character because of the way the insert or update statement is created. The only workaround is to manually edit the code to replace that character.

I think you can use: str_replace("|","& #124",{your current binding});

(don't include the space in the code above... it was only added to prevent this example from showing a "|")
That should get around the problem until we can implement a fix into dataassist. Respond to this incident if you need help implementing this and we can open a support incident in order to help you directly.

Did this help? Tips are appreciated...

Thank you. I just told the client not to use | for now... :-)
