Multiple HTML Editors on one page

Multiple HTML Editors on one page

Hi there,

Question: is it possible to use two instances of the HTML Editor on one page? Or even better: is it possible to use one instance of the HTML Editor on two different textfields?

I have one textfield in my CMS that is used to give a brief summary of the article, the second textfield is for typing the actual article itself.

I've searched the forums, but couldn't find any threads on this matter.

Yes, you can have more than one HTMLEditor instance on a page. Each instance must have a unique name on the page like any other form elements. As for using one instance for both fields I'm not sure that I understand how you would like this to work. Normally you would have an HTMLEditor instance for each form field that you would like to make a Rich Text Editor.

Hi Eric, thanks for answering so quickly.

With my second question I mean that the HTMLEditor would work with a textarea that has focus. So if I type something in the first area, the HTMLEditor works for that one and when working in the second field, the same instance of the Editor works for that one. That way you only need one HTML Editor per page, making the forms a little bit more user-friendly (and less challenging for inexperienced users) in my opinion.

I'm now going to try to hide the HTMLEditor for a field if it doesn't have focus with some JS.

You can use the same editor for more than one value in a server behavior like an update. In the update you would just specify that both columns get their value from the HTMLEditor instance on the page.

However, I do not fully understand how you would like this to work from the perspective of the user. Would you have a page that loads with two text areas on it, and if the user selects one text field the editor would show and be associated with that field, but if the user set focus to the other text field the same editor would show but be associated with that text field?

iRite/HTML editor in repeat region

I have a repeat region showing records from my database.
I have 2 records showing two update forms each with the editor.

However the text in the editor is not correct - it just repeats the data of one record.

But if you look at the source code the 2 records show correctly in the hidden field.

How can I get this to display and work as it should?

John
