Sipping Charges in eCart for Power Store

Hi there,
I need to specify certain shipping charges in a few different manners for a power store application. I realize I need to make these changes in ecart, but need some guidance from there. I need to have 3 different UPS shipping rules that is triggered by a US customer based off a fixed price that my customer has pre-determined (one of the rules would also be triggered by a certain product category). I then need to offer 2 different shipping prices with Canada Post based on the items power store category, with an additional shipping item charge of a differing amount ie) $8 for the first item and $1 for each additional. Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you craft shipping charge rules the carrier you will use does not have any impact on setting up the charge rules, if you wanted to indicate one shipping provider over another you could name the rule after the shipping provider to indicate this.

You say that you have three shipping rules for US customers based on a flat rate, what are the three different amounts and circumstances that you would like to setup these charges for.

Also, for the Canadian shipments how exactly would you like to charge the shipping and what factors exactly are you using for this?

The US shipping charges would be $25 ground delivery for a specific product category, $40 for ground delivery based all other product categories, and $70 express shipping for all product categories as an alternate option.

For Canadian shipping, again I would be using a $10 charge for specific product categories with an additional item charge of $2 per item, and an $8 charge for specific product categories with additional item charge of $1

You will need to make sure that you are storing the category in the cart when you are adding the items. Once you do that you will be able to start crafting the shipping charge rules. In the shipping tab create a new rule, I will go over an example of the first US shipping rule.

You will first add the condition to check for the shipping country being US, you can do this by checking the session variable eCartCheckoutForm_shipping_country being equal to 'US'. Next you will need to add in the condition for the category. You will 'number of items with a specific column value' then select your category column and enter the value for that category, then set it to > 0. These two conditions together will make it so this shipping charge will only apply to US orders where there is an item of a particular category.

For the Canadian charges you would have the same check of the shipping country and you would add in the category checks. For the increment shipping you would need two new separate charge rules for each of these.

OK thank you Eric, that sounds like it should be straight forward enough for me, might encounter some speed bumps when I try the increment shipping charges but will start with the other rules first.....question about storing the categories to your cart....how do you do that, or is it happenning automatically from uploading categories in your CMS???

You might have the categories already in place. All that I meant by it was that you need to have columns in your cart object to hold these values, like the category. So long as you have the categories associated with your products and your add to cart server behaviors are setting the category in the cart you will be fine.
