Error activating...

Error activating...

Using SecurityAssist to start the login pages of a new site. After going through the wizard there was an error while generating pages. Dreamweaver closed.

I restarted and tried to continue. When bringing up SecurityAssist Wizard I get "An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. An error occured. Please contact your administrator."

I removed SecurityAssist and re-installed it. Still getting the same error while SecurityAssist is trying to validate my license.

The error you are getting about the FTP is referring to your site settings in DW. In the testing or remote server where you have specified FTP settings DW is stating that there is a problem when trying to connect with them. You should open up DW and change these settings, maybe you could set it to local access, then activate Security Assist and try to make use of it again. If you get the errors again let us know. In my experience it is best to manually FTP the files up to the server and not to rely on DW to do this for you.

Sorry, not settings related

I actually think something was corrupted during the crash I described. The settings for this server were working for months. The server has not changed. I can log in to the server fine with any other client. Finally, other defined sites work if they are on other servers but not if they are on this one.

The reason I posted here is that the crash occurred while the Security Assist Wizard was creating pages.

I've tried:

re-installing SecurityAssist - still gets FTP error when opening the wizard
re-creating the site definition - gets FTP error when clicking the test button

Is there a cached file somewhere that needs to be removed?

You can go to Sites > Advanced > Recreate site cache to have the site cache be reset by DW.

DW does have a cache file as well that might have some part to play in this, here are some instructions for clearing this file:

common_installation_issues.pdf

You should also try setting up a new DW site without the FTP and try to make use of Security Assist first, then go back and update the FTP info to ensure that none of the info or settings are being affected by Security Assist.
