Clients having to creat paypal accounts???

I've gotten my powerstore up and running. However, when a client went to check out it asked them to create a PayPal account. With my old shopping cart it gave the client to proceed and pay by credit card, or create a PayPal account.

My question is: Is there a way to set this up so they are not forced to create a PayPal account?

Here's the site: www.bayarea-web.com

there is a setting in your PayPal account you need to turn on named "PayPal Account Optional":

Nope...didn't work.

I went in to my PayPal settings and tried it with the option on and off and it still went to the same screen which requires them to either sign in with a paypal account or to create a new one.

Please help!

from the link I sent you:
*This feature is available to Premier and Business account holders only.

This is a paypal feature that is set on the payapl servers, it cannot be set in the cart script.

I will not be able to help you with this.

I am a business account holder??

I've been a business account holder of PayPal for years. I've never had this problem with another cart. Otherwise this is a totally useless product for me.

You mean to tell me that there is no way for someone to check out without have a paypal account??? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Please help!

This is a PayPal account setting.
it cannot be set in the cart php script.

the paypal account optional setting in your account controls whether the option is available or not.

This is an issue you will need to bring up with paypal suppport. it is not possible for the cart script to turn this on or off.

I have tried it both ways...

I have tried it with the option on and off and it doesn't change. However, it does change with my other shopping carts (oscommerce, shopsite, etc.) This tells me it's something in the programming of the cart itself.

Please let me know that there's someway we can fix this.

the account optional setting cannot be set in the cart.

It cannot be turned on or off through through the php script.

It can only be turned on or off through the PayPal account settings.

Please contact PayPal support on this matter.

Not a happy customer....

Okay, all I'm trying to do is to get my cart working so I can accept credit cards. Here's what PayPal wrote:

Dear David Prescott,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

From what I can see your PayPal settings are correct. You may need to
review your Express Checkout settings.

Here's how Express Checkout works:

* Place the PayPal button and PayPal mark on your site to inform
buyers that you accept PayPal.
* When buyers check out on your site click the PayPal button, they
are securely transferred to PayPal.
* Buyers log in to PayPal's secure web site, confirm the shipping
address and contact information stored with PayPal, and then authorize
the payment.
* Buyers are transferred back to your site to confirm the order. You
may include any additional services and options, and charge the PayPal
account.
* PayPal accepts, authorizes, and processes payments at this point.
When payments are completed, funds are deposited into your PayPal
account and can be withdrawn or transferred to your bank account.

Here's how you can get more information on using PayPal as an additional
payment option.

1. Go to the PayPal website.
2. Click "Products & Services" at the top of the page.
3. Click "Express Checkout" under Ways to get paid.

I'm extremely frustrated. It seems like with the express checkout solution there's only one way for it to work....if they become a paypal customer? I don't seem to be getting any answers that make sense to me. I'd be happy to talk on the phone to someone...anyone who would like to help me through this.

Right now I had a useless shopping cart and I can't collect payment from my customers.

There is nothing I will be able to tell you in a phone call that I haven't already said here.

Being able to checkout without a paypal account is controlled by the "PayPal Account Optional" setting in your payapl account control panel.

This cannot be controlled by the cart php script, It must be set in the paypal business account settings.

through google I found the following information:

The account optional setting is only available in the following countries:

# Australia
# Belgium
# Canada
# France
# Hong Kong
# Netherlands
# United Kingdom
# United States

There are reports of other people having a problem with the pay by credit cared form not showing due to paypal cookies. Try clearing your cookies before testing.

the second to last post says:

I had the issue of PayPal not allowing checkout with a credit card (you needed to log in), and it turns out that I had PayPal Express Checkout enabled under Accept Additional Payment service. I selected “We don’t use one” instead, and it now shows the credit card as expected.
