Insert / Update behaviour and the pipe (|)

Hi WA,

I have a standard text area, nothing special. No HTML Editor applied to it.

I have developed a CMS solution and want my client to be able to add their Google Analytics code to the CMS via the back end. I have created the page and applied the Insert / Update behavior as applicable, but there is a problem.

The GA code contains two pipe characters - || - and this breaks up the insert into the database.

Am I missing something here? Do I need to use a specific character set to be able to insert this characters?

Thanks!
Ian

This is a limitation of DataAssist currently. Here is a thread with a code example you can use to work around the issue.

Thanks Eric, seems to have done the trick.

The only thing I noticed, and I don't know if this is the expected behaviour, is that I have to re-encode it on the web page where it is delivered.

For example:

<?php echo str_replace("|", "|",$row_rsconfig['analyticscode']); ?>

Also, if this problem is addressed in Data Assist will I have to readdress all of this (i.e remove the code that fixed it?)

Cheers

When you see this on the page you will not notice the difference between the character and the encoded character, the browser will interpret it for you as the same character. So this should not be necessary, it is only done when inserting the values so that the character does not match the separator in the server behavior.

This issue is logged as a bug but I have no ETA on a fix release. If you have this code on your page after an update is released and applied it should not make a difference.
