Data Assist Crashes or Freezes on Wizards

Data Assist Crashes or Freezes on Wizards

I have been driven crazy by this problem. Please, someone help! Data Assist keeps crashing Dreamweaver when I run the Data Assist Wizard or the Search Wizard. It does so at different parts of the wizard. I am running Win 7 and it will either state that a problem was encountered and Dreamweaver needs to close or it will hang. This can happen at the end of the wizard or right after the first step. It seems to happen more often if I start the wizard without first hitting the connect button for the site. I have tried deleting the .dat file. I have ensured my SQL database has remote access with GoDaddy. I do not have DataSearch installed. I have successfully been able to create my search, results, details, insert, and delete pages, but only after running the wizard over and over until it went through without crashing.

This behavior occurs both in CS4 and CS5.

Have you had any previous versions of the extension installed and did this occur with those versions as well? Are you saving your pages to a network drive or a local drive? Are you working as the administrator user on your os? Do you have any security, virus scan or firewall software running?

I have not had any previous versions installed. I am working as admin user. I even uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials and disabled the firewall. Eventually, I installed Data Assist version 1, and although I got a bit further, I still had problems. So I decided to stick the database on another host. Some of the problems went away. I don't know what the deal is with GoDaddy, but this is the second time I have encountered baffling errors with them despite have external access on the hosted database.

I have now moved the site to be hosted by mediatemple.net. After creating the access with them, I found that the wizard in Data Assist 2.0.7 was able to complete. I got 2 "unknown SQL commands" errors when I started the wizard, but it completed. I have been unable to test the page due to a DNS issue they are having as of right now. Yea, I know, I am having some bad luck, lol. Since they are a major hosting provider, that will be resolved soon and when I return form work tonight, I will test to see if the wizard worked.

As far as I can tell, this Data Assist wizard freezing/crashing issue probably has something to do with the GoDaddy database hosting. I think the wizard does something when it says "updating database schema" which does not work well with GoDaddy. I have only seen that message a couple of times, but I am sure it is trying to communicate with the remote database when it crashes.

Yes, some users do have issues with GoDaddy hosting. Let me know if you run into any other issues on your other host.

It seems to run well on the new host. I do get 4 errors when I start the wizard. Something like SQL error: "unknown". Otherwise, it runs fine and those 4 errors don't seem to cause a problem. Words to the wise: don't use GoDaddy with Data Assist.

Good to hear you're not running into issues any longer on the new server. If you run into any additional issues, feel free to open a new thread.
