Cropping with DFP

I am using DigitalFilePro to upload images in an admin site that I'm setting up for a client. I've got the uploader working great, it uploads a full resolution file to a particular directory then sizes it down and saves it to a sub-directory named thumbs. What I want to end up with is a large image that is high res and vertical or horizontal depending on the picture. Then I want the thumbnail to be square. I know that DFP can fit the image to a specific size, but it "letterboxes" it or you could say that it adds white to one side to make it fill the specified size. So in short my question is can DFP crop an image to be square, instead of sizing it down and then adding extra space to make it square? If not, is there another way to do this?

There isn't a way to set DFP to crop the image instead of resizing with a fill color. You would have to perform some other image editing either before uploading or after uploading to get the cropping to occur.
