PHP Safe Mode

My webhost is shared and they say they cannot turn off Safe Mode. Is there any other way to get this working on safe mode?

No. I'd find another host. Safe mode was a temporary hack to get around some security issues that used to exist.

Now it is a frowned upon technique since there are much better ways to secure a site without so many restrictions.

In fact you can read about it here: features.safe-mode.php

PHP has already depricated safe mode and will be completely removing it in version 6 because of the antiquated nature of using it. I hate to be so harsh, but your ISP will have to get with the times soon and allow safe mode to be turned off. In the meantime I'd find another host that isn't afraid to stay current or learn how to protect their servers without doing so at their end user's expense.
