Why the need for SMTP server url?

Why the need for SMTP server url?

Hello,

I'm using Universal Email for the first time on a site I do not host so I do not know the smtp server. I sent an email to the host requesting the smpt server and they are confused about why I am asking. I can understand.

When I have hand-built email forms before, I just used the PHP mail command, PHP on the server already configure to know what SMTP server to use. So I have the same question as the host, why is the SMTP server required by Universal Email? Is there a way to use it without knowing the SMTP server and just using the PHP mail command?

Thanks in advance.

if you do not enter the smtp server, it will use the one that is configured in the PHP.ini file.

The smtp server field is there in case the php.ini is not set correctly, or you wish to use a different smtp server.

Thanks!

Ah, you guys think of everything, eh?

Thanks for the quick reply. Just for us dummies, you might consider marking that as optional on the configuration screen.
