Extensions Not Responding

Hi, I just reformatted my machine and started putting everything back in. I tried to use both my Data Assist and Site Assist and neither will respond after the first screen. It just sits there like its busy. I deleted the cache file once, but no good. Everything is fresh. Any ideas? Everything else seems to work fine.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extensions? Is it just these two extensions that are having this issue? Did you make sure to have the latest updates on the extensions downloaded before installing?

Yes I have reinstalled them and yes I always keep my extensions updated. Data Assist stops responding on step 2 and security Assist stops responding on step 2. My sculptor and site assist are working.

Which version of Dreamweaver are you running and which operating system are you using?

Does an error message ever come up after the extension runs for a while?

What you can try is, with Dreamweaver and extension manager shut down, rename the configuration folder (the one the filecache file is in). This will have the effect of disabling the extensions that you have installed. Try removing and then re-installing DataAssist and testing it and then do the same with Security Assist.

Hey Jimmy,

Im running CS4 on windows XP. I was'nt getting any error message at all, it just sits there like it's busy. On a machine configuration note(I know this isnt the place for that) I have a 850 watt PSU, I7 3.0 processor, EVGA X58 confidential board, 3 gig of Corsair Terminator 1600 mhz ram, and two EVGA 9800 GTX cards running. I did notice when I started my machine up that the startup sound for XP was weird and the cursor movement would lag. So what I did was remove 1 video card to see if it was a power thing. It did stop the windows sound from being weird, but the extensions are still hanging. This machine isnt that old and I've had my extensions and CS4 running before it. I'm wondering if maybe I'm lacking power overall. But they did work before I formatted my machine. When I select my template in step 1 of Data Assist I get the hour glass for a moment, then it goes to step 2 and I get a pointed finger hand cursor that don't allow me to select anything in step 2. Once I try to it shows Data Assist not responding, even while waiting.

I tried to rename the configuration folder and reinstalled Data Assist and it still hangs on the second step.

I was thinking it could have something to do with the preview engine, but the other extensions that are running fine also use previews. Do you have any security, virus scan or firewall software running while trying to run the extensions?

Welp I found out the cause, I created a fresh template with a bare editable area and they are working. Apparently they did'nt like the template I was trying to use. Thanks for your help though Jimmy. I really appreciate it.

Great to hear that you were able to get it working. If you run into any additional issues, feel free to open a new thread.
