How to 'Show a graphic tick, in a visited link'?

Thank you for replying, appreciate that.

Yes, done as you say, and also created a visited link in the Design tab in the cssmenu wizard, and still any image I do, either hard-coded to the url (http) or done via the site root (../ etc) - does not work or show the image - any image?

I'm using latest versions of chrome, ie9 and firefox 4. Whenever a menu item is clicked, it will show the original background grad (selected from the wizard) but will not show the background from the visited link (it will however show the text colour, or a coloured solid background when visited - just no images?
