Using Data Assist

Sorry if this is not the correct or best forum for this question.

I have just purchased the Dynamic Suite and was experimenting with it.

I was unable to connect to my remote server via DW CS3, and am now understanding that I need to build everything on my testing server, then I assume upload the files, change the connection parameters and import the database tables? Is this correct?

I am using (as well as my host) phpmyadmin, so again, I am assuming that I will export the existing tables/data from my remote server, then import to my local testing server, once I am done with the additions I make using WA, then export from the local and import to the remote? Am I correct on this or is there a better way? Perhaps there is a tutorial or two about this?
