How to send email to different groups

I'm interested in using UE to send email to different groups within a small church - like the worship team, Sunday school teachers, everyone, etc. I imagine I must do this using an Access database with a group field and everyone being assigned those groups but am not sure how to begin or if people can have more than one group. Is there a tutorial for this or can someone point me in the right direction?
