My First Run with Beta 008

I had no issue getting Beta 008 running on the first try on my server.

A couple of things, though.

When installing, the installer makes you make the entire PowerStore directory set to writable. That's fine if containing the entire installation within a folder on your site such as: store/.

But I don't like the idea of that if you were to run the store off the root level. Making the entire root writable is a little bit of security concern.

While I love the setup and how easy it is to manage settings, there were a couple of things I would change. On the payment gateway portion, it asks for passwords yet none of the password fields are obfuscated (they all show plain text). Again a slight security concern.

I also wasn't sure what some of the stuff was in the Payment Gateway and may need a little more explanation. For example, for the Paypal Express gateway - which is what I set up because I have that kind of account - I found a line that required a "signature." I am not even sure what that is for, as there was nothing in my Pay Pal account referring to it. I assume maybe it is just a line that goes with all sales?

The product itself so far has operated very smoothly. I will begin customizing and twisting it every which way to uncover any possible problems.

Best regards,

Brian
